Thanks to an innovation from Luleå, you can easily sanitize your home with ozone.
Ozoneair removes all odors – but also neutralizes bacteria, allergens, mold spores, and other harmful microorganisms.
Here’s how – step by step.
Odor can be hard to trace
Bad odors are common in our homes. They can come from dampness and mold growth. Other odors that are difficult to remove include the stench of old tobacco smoke, urine, or pet odors that have settled into textiles and furnishings.
Sometimes the bad odor is hard to trace. It can be related to drainage, poor ventilation, or old materials in the house, such as linoleum floors or wallboards.
Ozone technology has long been used to purify water and kill bacteria and viruses in textiles in, for example, healthcare. Since the 1970s, remediation companies have used ozone to sanitize homes and premises from fire odors, tobacco odors, mold odors, and other smells.
No prior knowledge needed
With the Swedish innovation Ozoneair, private individuals can sanitize their homes with ozone, without any prior knowledge – and get a clean home in a whole new way.
"We launched the product in spring 2018, and it sold out immediately," says Johan Lundberg, founder of Ozoneair, a technology company in Luleå.
Today, the machine has sold over 37,000 units in Sweden and the rest of the Nordics.
How does cleaning with ozone work?
"Ozoneair converts oxygen in the air into ozone, which attacks and neutralizes odors, mold spores, allergens, bacteria, and other harmful microorganisms," explains Johan Lundberg.
Ozone is a reactive gas, also known as active oxygen. It penetrates and cleans in nooks and crannies, as well as superficially in materials like textiles and other furnishings, floors, and walls.
"Ozone sanitizes 3000 times more effectively than chlorine bleach."
You can ozone sanitize 1000 times
You can use your Ozoneair for approximately 1000 treatments, equivalent to 4000 operating hours. The two largest models, Ozoneair PLUS and Ozoneair PRO, are also refillable; you can purchase new oxygen plates.

Guide: Sanitize with ozone – step by step
- Move flowers and other plants out of the room to be sanitized. Open doors to cabinets where you store clothes, textiles, and other items you want to freshen up – the ozone also purifies materials. Close windows and doors and ideally seal/tape off door and window gaps.
- Connect the Ozoneair to a standard electrical outlet and set the room's area using a dial. Then press the start button.
- The machine is fully automatic. While it is operating – typically 2-6 hours – you should not be in the room. Pets should also not be in the room as inhaling ozone is harmful.
- Two hours after operation is complete, you can re-enter the room. By then, all ozone molecules will have broken down into ordinary oxygen. Air out the room; there might be a slight chlorine-like smell from the ozone treatment afterward, but it will dissipate when aired out.
- Repeat the same procedure in the next room. Sometimes, the treatment may need to be repeated a few times.
Use ozone safely. Always read the instruction manual and product information before use.
