The townhouse smelled "old" and the guesthouse on Öland had a musty odor that clung to clothes.
The couple Jan Ahlin and Lotta Edman have now remediated their total of six properties with Ozoneair.
– Regardless of the smell – the odors disappear, they say.

Jan Ahlin and Lotta Edman have a townhouse in Nykvarn and a farm on Öland that includes a total of five properties – a residential house from 1905, a barn of 400 square meters, a guesthouse, a bakery cottage, and a forge.
– We are on Öland as much as we can. We can play golf there all year round, says Jan Ahlin.
He is a civil engineer and has worked in the construction industry since 1967 – most recently as project manager for the stone replacement at Stockholm Palace and for the complete renovation of the Stockholm City Museum.
– I read about the Ozoneair product and became curious. Odor remediation with ozone is an effective method, and I found it very interesting that a product has been developed that private individuals can use at home, without prior knowledge.
Ozoneair is a technology company in Luleå that has developed a unique machine. It converts oxygen in the air into ozone gas, which attacks and eliminates odors, mold spores, allergens, bacteria, and other harmful microorganisms. The gas penetrates into nooks and crannies as well as superficially into materials such as textiles, furniture, floors, and walls.
The smell lingered despite renovation
When Lotta's daughter complained that her clothes smelled like "musty summer cottage" after staying overnight on Öland, Jan Ahlin ordered an Ozoneair.
– She usually sleeps in the small guesthouse that we originally called "the dump house", haha. We thought we would have to tear it down because of the smell, which came from old linoleum mats. But I ripped out the mats, laid new flooring, and even built a sleeping loft. We didn't smell anything after the renovation, but apparently, the smell lingered. We decided to try Ozoneair.
"As if the building had bathed in chlorine"
The machine is easy to use, says Jan.
– You connect it to an electrical outlet and turn it on. It is fully automatic and works for a few hours per room.
After the remediation, the air and smell in the guesthouse were different:
– A huge difference! I was surprised by the effect. It smelled as if the entire building had bathed in chlorine – clinically clean and fresh.
Remediated house, bakery cottage, forge, and barn
Jan and Lotta bought the farm on Öland about ten years ago, and a lot has happened since then. Jan has furnished the entire upper floor of the residential house and made two rooms in one "wing" of the barn, the small forge has been converted into a modern guesthouse – and the next project is to convert the bakery cottage's root cellar into a wine cellar.
They have now remediated all the houses with Ozoneair.
– The scent and air became so incredibly fine in the guesthouse, so we continued in all properties. Even though we didn't have problems with any specific bad smell in the residential house, it became significantly fresher and cleaner.
And where there is a smell, it becomes odorless, Jan attests:
– Regardless of the smell – earthy, musty, or damp – all odors disappear.
"Smelled old"
The couple has also remediated the 100 square meter townhouse in Nykvarn, built in 1965, which they bought four years ago.
– Lotta has complained that it smelled something when they came home, a bit stuffy and "old".
Even in the townhouse, the smell became significantly cleaner and fresher.
– It was like coming to a new house, fantastic!
Your tip for anyone who is going to remediate with Ozoneair?
– Be careful to tape door frames and window frames. If too much ozone leaks out of the room, the remediation will be less effective. Set the device to the correct surface area of the room to be remediated. Be thorough and follow the instructions, and the result will be fantastic.

Jan Ahlin and Lotta Edman
Lives: Townhouse in Nykvarn and farm on Öland.
Family: Three children each.
Professions: Jan is a project manager in the construction industry and Lotta is a special education teacher.
Guide: Remediate with ozone – step by step
- Move flowers and other plants out of the room to be remediated. Open cupboard doors where you store clothes, textiles, and other items you want to freshen up – ozone also purifies materials. Close windows and doors and tape them shut.
- Connect Ozoneair to a standard electrical outlet and set the room's area using a dial. Then press the start button.
- The machine is fully automatic. While it is working – usually 2-6 hours – you should not be in the room. Pets are also not allowed in the room as inhaling ozone is harmful.
- Two hours after the operation is complete, you can re-enter the room. By then, all ozone molecules will have broken down into ordinary oxygen. Ventilate, it may smell a little of the ozone treatment afterward, but this disappears with ventilation.
- Repeat the same procedure in the next room. Sometimes it may be necessary to repeat the treatment a few times.
Use ozone safely. Always read the instruction manual and product information before use.
