Boating is attracting more and more people. One in five Swedes wants to buy a boat, preferably a used one, according to a new survey.
With the Ozoneair product, you can make an older boat smell as if it were new.

Perhaps it's a consequence of last summer's tropical heat. Interest in boats is increasing in Sweden, and one in five Swedes is interested in buying a boat within the next three years. Almost everyone, 98 percent of potential buyers, would gladly choose a used boat.
This is according to a new survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of the buying and selling site Blocket, where an average of 60 percent of used boats are sold within a week.

Greener boating with electric motors and carpools

Today, 21 percent of Swedes own some type of waterborne vehicle: boat, canoe, or jet ski. When asked about the reason, most cite relaxation, for pleasure, and to spend quality time with family and friends.

In addition to the used-boat hype, the issue of sustainability in general is one of the clearest trends on the water. Electric boats powered by hybrid or electric motors are gaining ground, as are carpools with shared ownership.

Most boats start to smell bad

A common problem with older boats, however, is the smell. A boat that is covered during the winter, year after year, often develops a stale, unpleasant odor that settles into upholstery and interior. Lack of ventilation, moisture, condensation, and leftover fuel are common causes.

Andreas Hedström, from Luleå, had this problem with his 1988 Princess Yacht, which he uses in the Luleå archipelago every summer. "The boat smelled old and stale, no matter how much we cleaned it, the smell always came back," he says.

Ozone gas destroys mold spores

Andreas tried the Swedish innovation Ozoneair: a unique product that has borrowed purification principles from nature. The machine converts oxygen in the air into the natural gas ozone, which does the job: The gas fills the entire space and seeps in where mold spores and other microorganisms hide. The molecules that cause odors are attacked and neutralized – and the odors disappear.

"Easy to use"

"Using Ozoneair was easy, just plug the machine into an electrical outlet and press a button. It worked for three hours. All stale odors disappeared and have not returned," says Andreas Hedström.

Morgan Jakobsson, from Glanshammar in Örebro municipality, has also used Ozoneair. He bought a used motorboat in the autumn of 2018, and the odors wouldn't go away with traditional cleaning agents.

The used boat hadn't received much love

“Unfortunately, the boat hadn't received much love or care in recent years. It had been left outside, moisture had crept in, and the cushions were moldy. My conclusion is that the odors had settled into the fabric, carpets, vinyl, cushions, and other furnishings. It reeked of a stale, moldy root cellar so much that it caught in your throat.”

With Ozoneair, all odors disappeared.

“I bought the smallest model, which ran for two hours. A few days later, I spread all the cushions in the cabin and ran it for another two hours to treat the cushions separately.”

“Absolutely fantastic! It smells new – not of cleaning products, but more clinically neutral. A fresh and healthy scent,” says Morgan Jakobsson.
