In July, 617 new motorhomes were registered – an increase of 34 percent compared to the same month in 2019, according to statistics from the Swedish Caravan Industry Association (HRF). Stale odor in a small space
But a caravan often starts to smell stale and musty over the years. The odors can be caused by dampness, condensation, poor ventilation, and mold growth, and they settle in upholstery and other interior furnishings. If you have pets or smoke cigarettes – or if someone has been carsick – the stench can pervade the entire space.
"Water leaked into my motorhome, and it started to smell like old felt carpet. A stale and musty odor that couldn't be removed," says Kent Marklund from Piteå.
The ozone purifier did the job
Kent received a tip about a Swedish innovation: the Ozoneair ozone purifier. A unique machine that effectively removes odors using ozone gas. He bought the smallest model, Ozoneair Go 30, and tested it. After a few hours, the car smelled like new. "Now it smells clean and fresh, as if the car had been freshly scrubbed and aired out," says Kent Marklund.

How the Ozoneair ozone purifier works

The machine works like this:
• Ozoneair uses a so-called corona discharge to convert oxygen (O2) into ozone (O3). This means that oxygen passes through an electric field and becomes ozone, which is a strong oxidant.
• Ozone is dispersed into the space and oxidizes organic compounds: odor molecules, bacteria, mold spores, viruses, and so on. These microorganisms are neutralized, and all odors disappear.
• The ozone molecule is chemically unstable, which means that if it does not react with another oxidizable molecule, it breaks down into ordinary oxygen. The lifespan of ozone varies from a couple of minutes to an hour. A few hours after Ozoneair has finished working in the space, you can be completely sure that the air only contains ordinary oxygen.
Sanitize your caravan with ozone – 5 steps
Sanitizing with Ozoneair is about as simple as using a dishwasher or microwave oven.
1. Turn off the ventilation. Connect Ozoneair to a power outlet. Place the machine in the middle of the motorhome, enter the size of the space in square meters, and press start.
2. Keep doors and windows closed while the machine is working. No one should be in the vehicle while it is being sanitized, as it is harmful to health to breathe in ozone.
3. Ozoneair automatically calculates the optimal treatment time. In just a few hours, bad odors disappear and are replaced by a fresh, clean scent. The machine turns itself off automatically.
4. Two hours after the treatment is completed, you can enter the caravan again. Feel free to air it out; there may be a slight smell of the ozone itself, but it disappears when you ventilate.
5. Do you need to remove odors again? You can use your Ozoneair for about 1000 treatments.
This is how ozone works: Ozone is a gas called "active oxygen." When ozone comes into contact with the molecules that cause bad odors, they are oxidized and neutralized, and the odors disappear. The ozone also penetrates and sanitizes odors in nooks and crannies, and even in surfaces and materials.
